The 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship begins in Bahrain on the 10th of March 2006 and runs for over 19 races finishing in Brazil in October.

The only race to take place in the Middle East is the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. The Bahrain Formula One race will take place over three days, March 10th, 11th and 12th.
2004 was the first ever Bahrain F1 race and a huge success, enjoyed by countless millions of people watching on TV and most Important the race was also voted a big success within the world of Formula One with everyone experiencing the friendliness and hospitality of the Bahraini people.

For one weekend, Bahrain became the centre point of the sporting world and also has the chance to show the World that it is an international centre for business.

The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, takes place over a period of 3 days.

  • Friday is set aside to allow the drivers & teams to practice and get to know the track.

  • Saturday is when the all important qualifying sessions take place where the starting orders of the race are determined. During the morning the Teams and drivers are given a last chance to get to know the circuit & test their cars.

  • Sunday is race day –The Bahrain Grand Prix race will last for about 2 hours and should prove to be a very exciting race.

The FIA Formula One World Championship is made up of two competitions. The first is for the World Drivers’ Championship and the other for the Constructors’ Championship.

There are ten teams competing in the FIA Formula One World Championship:

  • Renault, McLaren Mercedes
  • Ferrari
  • BAR Honda
  • WILLIAMS F1
  • BMW SAUBER
  • RED BULL
  • TOYOTA
  • Midland
  • Squadra Toro Rosso.

Each team competes with two cars and two drivers throughout the year and must race in every round of the Championship.

3rd place

7th place

2 points

8th place

1point

The points systems applies to both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships.

The driver who wins the most points during the season wins the Drivers’ Championship and the team that wins the most points wins the Constructors’ Championship.
Team Renault currently hold the Constructors cup and Spaniard Fernando Alonso is the winner of last year’s Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Pix.
