Is Your Home -

A Stress Free Haven?

How small Changes can make a

Big

difference

Are you stressed out at home? Do you walk through your front door and suddenly feel angry or an hour later feel depressed but you can’t put your finger on why?

What you do know is you’re a nightmare to live with, your screaming at the kids for no reason, and your dog no longer comes to greet you in case you yell at him too.

Face facts – it may not be work but the environment you have created for yourself within your home.

"It’s true", claims Abeer, a top Bahraini interior designer, "The house effects one’s attitude far more than most people realize. It should be a place of sanctuary, a place that reflects your personality and style. Most people have to be really conservative at work; but if you’re not a particularly conventional person at heart, why pretend in your home too? You should be able to express who you really are".

Meditainment - Tune in - Chill out

As a designer, Abeer will look at how her client dress’s, how they behave, what their job is and hobbies are as these will effect their home life too. But most reassuringly she insists that one does not have to have hundreds of spare dinars or a bulldozer  to make  a noticeable difference in the home.

"Small changes can make such a big difference: a fresh coat of paint, moving furniture around, softer lighting. Most importantly, spend time in the room you wish to change before you go mad with the paint. And the biggest no-no is trying to recreate your friend’s home in your own; it very rarely works. You can find ideas everywhere, from magazines to furniture design shops; but don’t shop for others and how they will see it, shop for what you want".

Colour – there is no such thing as a bad colour. Even black can look great in certain rooms and or places, The problem is how the colour is mixed or what it is blended with.

  • Choose colours that are quiet not dull or vibrant but not garish.

  • Colours interact; few people can predict how colours will look until you see them together.
  • Test potential colours before painting the whole room.

Exclusive designer furniture & fittings

A lick of paint can greatly change the appearance of a room and even make furniture look different and other colours look sharper. Often this is the only change a room needs. Just about every designer will recommend changing the colour of your rooms as much as once a year to stop it and yourself from getting boring.

Fabrics - Now this can often be seen as a great expense but it doesn’t have to be and once again recovering your suite or changing your curtains can make a major difference to its appearance and your room.

  • The colour and pattern is very important to get right.

  • Use colours in unequal quantities. Equal amounts of colour fight for attention.
  • Light colours tend to blend well. For example willow, maize and lilac, all light-value colours are pleasing to the eye.
  • Deep colours, such as claret, spruce and navy have an affinity, their dark values.
