Why?

“The degree of a people’s civilization is reflected in its attitude towards animals”. John Galsworthy

BSPCA - Bahrain Society for the prevention of cruelty to Animals.

The BSPCA was established some 23 years ago in 1979. The co-founders (and the current President) of the organization, Khalil Rajab and his wife Betty Khalil, set out to make Bahrain a better place to co-exist with animals.
This ambitious project is working thanks to dedicated volunteers who take care of the everyday welfare of the animals within the sanctuary.
Most animals that arrive have been abandoned, injured, or born into the wild. When they arrive they’re usually frightened and distressed. It’s the volunteers job to try to calm, look after, and (hopefully) re-home them. This is not an easy task, and depending on the animal’s health and how distressed they are it can be a very long process.
The job can sometimes be turned into an impossible and heartbreaking task if the animal has suffered cruelty.
Animal abuse happens in every society and it needs to be addressed here in Bahrain. It’s so hard to comprehend what must be going through the abuser’s mind and why they do it. Life is tough but that doesn’t give anyone the excuse to take their frustrations and failures out on animals.
A lot of animals can make superb companions for families. If a dog is treated well they will usually return this gesture through loyalty and become a great protector for the family and home. A donkey will work better if he’s fed regularly and allowed to rest.
If you see or hear of an animal being Abused (hit, starved, locked up), call the BSPCA who will come to help the injured animal.

Please also provide information if you can about the abuser (location, car registration etc).
Remember get your animal fixed (male & female) to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

A message from the cats & dogs of Bahrain:-

If you are thinking of adopting, please give it much consideration because we would like one owner for the rest of our lives and we really do suffer when you make a commitment and do not follow through with keeping us as part of the family. We are left trying to find a new home with someone that will return our love as our owners once did.

Please give me a home?

Hi, I am Cally please give me a home in Bahrain.

Hi, I am Cally. Thornton and I lived together for a year but I was originally adopted from the sanctuary two years ago and until our owners left I was really enjoying life as a house cat. I am spayed, vaccinated, micro-chipped and really quite ready to return to the good life. With my beautiful calico colouring I look smashing in any interior and you’ll find I fit well into any loving relationship. Pop in and we will have a chat about how I can improve the love in your life.

Please give me a home - Suzie the cat homeless in Bahrain

Hello, my name is Suzie, a natural blue-eyed, pale haired Bahraini! But don’t let my gorgeous white fur fool you, I’m actually quite young. Unfortunately I wasn’t spade and when I became pregnant, my owners decided to get rid of me, along with my kittens. I enjoy human company and when you visit the cat house you can expect a little cuddle from me. I would make a great pet because I really miss having a home.

Please give me a home - Libby the cat homeless in Bahrain

I’m Libby and a Persian mix with scrumptiously thick dark hair and remarkable stripes. My owners decided they no longer wanted me or my kittens and sent me to the sanctuary.

I really miss them and wish they had me spayed in time. I’m just one year old and feel too young to be abandoned without a home to call my own.

It’s hard because I love people, so please come and visit. Unless you are afraid I’m irresistible.

Try me!

Please give me a home - Stella the dog homeless in Bahrain

Hello! My name is Stella. I have been at the sanctuary since I was young and am now almost one year old.

They say here that I am so easy-going, I’m hardly noticeable! I want to be noticed. I am the perfect companion for someone looking for a loving pet that is not too rambunctious.

I am spayed, vaccinated, micro-chipped and entirely ready for my pet passport.

If it sounds good on paper, wait until you see me!

Hello, my name is Gator - I'm a homeless Bahrain dog in need of a loving family.

Hello, my name is Gator. Ha ha, funny name for a Husky mix. I’m just a big baby at 10 months old which is why I’ve just come out of the sanctuary pool and sand-pit in this picture. My family went on holiday but never came back. The nice people dog-sitting me already had two dogs of their own and just didn’t have room for a third. Now I’m an easy-going chap and I was raised to be well-behaved but I really miss the home life I’m used to. Please come see me and remind me that there are families who care.
