Crystal Healing
The ancient art of laying-on-stones on and I around the body. It is an alternative
technique for strengthening the body and resolving personal issues.
It
is believed that through placing certain gems, stones and crystals
on specific areas of the body (known as chakra points), vibrations
are emitted that can correct underlying problems. The crystals help
to create a flow of energy that begins to promote healing by clearing,
balancing, and re-energizing the body's energy fields.
Often the effects are indirect but very
potent. Crystal healing falls within the category of holistic medicine,
which focuses on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual elements
of the body and how they are
interconnected to maintain a healthy being. It is believed that if
one of these elements is not working properly then the whole body
will be affected. Crystal healing concentrates on treating the whole
body rather than focusing on one element such as the illness itself,
that is, what do you eat, do you exercise, what other medicine are
you taking at the moment?
What is a chakra?
At the central core of our body spins seven main wheel - like energy
centres called
chakras. Chakras have the ability to receive, assimilate and transmit energy.
It is believed that there are seven major chakras connected to and part of the physical body. All are located
to the torso and head and each chakra transmits and receives energy often called "chi". There are also many minor chakras, most of which are located at the joints of the physical body.
When a person is feeling unwell, it is believed that the chakras may be distorted, preventing energy from flowing freely through the body and
causing blockages throughout the system. These blockages can be caused through a traumatic childhood, stress, bad diet, lack of exercise etc.
The physical body is a unit made of many different integral parts that are designed
to be self-correcting and the body's job is to maintain balance and the free flow of energy. Our body can be compared
to a car For example, if one of the spark plugs within the engine becomes clogged the car will
not move efficiently and that applies to our body.
When the charka system is balanced, the physical body can begin to mend itself naturally.
The history of crystal healing
Crystal therapy is an ancient art, originating some believe in Egypt thousand of years ago. Medical prescriptions discovered from the ancient Egyptians times included certain stones (Malachite,
Chrysocolla and Hematite etc).
These crystals were ground up and sprinkled directly on wounds, and
scientist today have proved that it is an effective bactericide. Others
believe crystal healing is even older, beginning in the ancient civilization
of Atlantis or possibly even Lemuria. The ancient Greeks and Roman
healers such as Pliny and Galen used Hematite for headaches. Pliny
also used it for blood disorders. But the one common belief was the
tremendous potential of healing properties that these stones contained.
Getting treatment
It is unadvisable for novices to self treat themselves or treat anybody else using crystals. Care must be
taken when using crystals whether you believe in them or not because certain crystals can bring certain conditions
to the surface very quickly triggering the body to try and heal itself where as others can work much more slowly.
Consulting a qualified crystal healer is recommended, because the healer will sit with you and discuss your problems before deciding the appropriate crystals.
A qualified therapist is said to intuitively know where "blockages" of energy are located and then place particular stones or crystals on the different parts of the body. Different stones are supposed to have different types of healing properties. For example,
Amethysts are thought to calm the mind and Bloodstones are thought to purify the blood. Remember the cause of your disease will be treated, rather than the symptoms.
Conclusion
There is no scientific evidence that holistic medicine alone is effective
in treating any illness, although there are some anecdotal reports
that crystals can be used as a method to promote relaxation and relieve
stress (which is the cause of many modern day elements).
However, combining one or several therapies in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle through an individual's habits, such as exercising,
eating a nutritious diet, and not smoking can be a way of maintaining or improving good health.
For many patients particularly with life threatening illnesses they will use traditional medicine in combination with alternative therapies
to relieve symptoms or side effects, ease pain, and give a patient a better quality of life during treatment. This can prove to be very successful.
