Have you tried a Moroccan bath in Bahrain yet?

The Moroccan bath is the equivalent of a Turkish bath. Depending on where you go, you should pay roughly between BD8 -12 for the massage, and you will be expected to pay BD5 for an exfoliating massage glove that is yours to keep and reuse. Many salons vary in price as they have their own style of treatment, so if the price is too much shop around.

A Moroccan Bath can be slightly daunting to begin with
particularly if you've never had one before but you'll probably be the only person in the room and you'll have to remove you're clothes (all depends on you) but you will get very wet. You'll be led into a hot, steamy room and asked to wash your self before laying down on a tiled bench and left to sweat!

Right now you are probably wondering why you should pay for this, when all you have to do is drag yourself outside and sit in a chair for 5 minutes? The answer is you're less likely to be visited by a masseuse who will slap a herbal paste all over your body and begin to give you quite a vigorous massage (you are there for the pleasure).

On more then one occasion you may find your self being led to the tap and hosed down, then put back on the slab where the exfoliating glove will be used to scrub away dead skin, fake tan, you name it nothing remains other than fresh baby soft skin. The whole experience should be very relaxing and should last for one hour or so. Afterwards your skin feels and looks incredible. It's an ideal time to reapply your fake tan or put on a great outfit and show off your gleaming skin for the evening.

The true label for Moroccan baths is "hammams", and they're either men-only or women only. Hammams are social places where groups of men or women gather to discuss the day's events while washing in the steamy water. A recent story from Morocco tells of a 20-year old boy who, frustrated by his inability to meet girls, disguised himself as a woman and sneaked into the woman - only hammam to take a peak. Sadly for him he was caught and sentenced to a very long prison term.

In Bahrain all baths are in separate buildings so I don't think there is a chance of going into the wrong bath and being arrested! They are usually tucked away at the back of the salon. It is really worth experiencing even if you only go once.

Tricks of the trade

Baby soft skin

Creams have a higher content of protective oils than water - based lotions, so they form impermeable barriers that trap moisture underneath. In winter (or if your skin is specially dry), switch to a rich cream.

Do your skin some good and the environment!

Limit your shower time to 15 minutes - water rinses your skins protective oils away, so use warm water as opposed to hot water to protect your natural oils.

Smile and apply a little cream blush to the apples of your cheeks.

Make sure your foundation matches your skin.

In the store, swipe a stripe across your jaw line, then go outside. If it disappears in natural light, buy it.
