The first Bahrain Interhotel Basketball Tournament

The first Inter-hotel Basketball Tournament in Bahrain concluded last month with an aggressive and nail-biting final between the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel and Gulf Hotel teams. The Sheraton team, which was trailing by 11 points at the beginning of the 4th Quarter made an aggressive comeback to catch up and force an overtime. The 5-minute overtime was the deciding factor in the game, where Sheraton controlled the game for a spectacular finish and a 4- point lead over Gulf Hotel. The final scores were 111-115. This year, the Inter-hotel Basketball tournament was brought back to life by popular demand, and featured 7 teams: Sheraton Bahrain Hotel & Towers, Gulf Hotel, Ritz Carlton Resort, Regency Intercontinental, Diplomat Radisson, Mercure / Novotel and Chilis restaurant.

Batelco’s first ‘Interdepartmental Bowling Tournament’ a great success.

Batelco successfully completed its first Interdepartmental Bowling Tournament at the Funland Bowling Centre, Manama, last month. The tournament, making its debut into Batelco’s calendar of sporting events, was keenly contested between 20 teams, from the various departments. The Customer Marketing team, led by Bahrain’s champion bowler Mohammed Al Janahi along with Bader Ruwaihi, Emad Hussain and Kamal Jamal, were crowned champions. While the second place went to Consumer Unit, comprising of Ali Aqeel, Ali Abbas, Hussain Makhlooq and Medel Salzaro, the Mobile Network’s foursome Mahmood Al Zera, Ali Qumaish, Maitham Al Meshal and Ali Khamis took home the third place. Peter Kaliaropoulos - CE of Batelco, in the presence of Chris Gabriel - CFO and Shaikh Ahmed Al Khalifa - GM Human Resources, and a substantial crowd, congratulated the winning departments with glittering golden trophies.

 

American Express volunteers clear shores in Bahrain on International Clean Up Day

American Express volunteers clear shores in Bahrain on International Clean Up DayIn a spirit of environmental support for Bahrain, 36 volunteers from American Express Middle East participated in a beach clean up drive to mark the International Clean Up Day in Hawar Island. This community effort was organised by the Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility & Education (AWARE), as part of a global effort to help protect underwater environments and spread awareness of a cleaner natural habitat. The International Clean Up Day witnessed over 300,000 volunteers, including divers and shoreline participants of all ages, in more than 100 countries participating in clean up activities with an estimated 3.6 million kilograms of debris cleared off the shores across the world.

 


Massive Summer Party in Bahrain

The Massive Summer Party at the Gulf Hotel saw nine DJs including Belearic People, Rubiks Club the Preacher and partner Pedro Garcia, bring a selection of the world’s most loved dance music to three floors of the Gulf Hotel.

Arabian Miracle Dreams at Al Ahli stadium Bahrain

Leading South Indian stars including actresses Muktha and Meera as well as singers Anzar and Pradeep, amongst several others, entertained a crowd of several thousand at the Al Ahli indoor stadium in Zinj for three hours as part of the Arabian Miracle Dreams show organised by Bahrain’s Sree Narayana Cultural Society.

British Council reception

British Council Bahrain Director Sandra Hamrouni hosted a reception at her Adliya residence to mark the completion of Global Gateway training by eleven teachers and eleven policy makers from the Ministry of Education. The training is part of the Council’s regional Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Schools project, which aims to introduce e-learning in scholastic systems.

OKR Spelling Bee

Filipino Ambassador to Bahrain and OKR founding member HE Eduardo Pablo Maglaya addressed the kingdom’s first all Filipino Spelling Bee, organised by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bahrain Chapter of the Order of the Knights of Rizal, held at the Carlton hotel.

Champion of the day Wendie Sarmiento scooped US$100 and a trophy.

 

All participants left with acknowledgements for their participation.
